Hi Parents and Scouts,

Thank you very much for all of your efforts in making the popcorn sellling a huge success for Pack 13.  We know that each scout's achievements are directly related to the time a parent or guardian shared to help make it happen.  So we thank you for your time!

Some items on the horizon for Pack 13:

All Parent Meeting
There will be an all parent meeting this Wednesday, December 1st at 6:30 pm at Belle Creek Charter School Cafeteria.  Please plan on attending as there are several important items to discuss which are critical to the needs of the scouts.

Coat Drive
Pack 13 is sponsoring a coat drive at Belle Creek Charter school next week (11/29 to 12/3).  We will collect coats, gloves, scarves, etc., for those in need of these items.  The colleciton area is manned each day by a few scouts and parents from 3:30 to 4:15 pm.  Please consider volunteering.  We currently need more scouts/parents to help with this.  You can email me to volunteer.

Just a reminder, we will not have a Pack meeting in December because of the holiday break.

Hi Scouts and Parents!
This is our first monthly update for the year.  We post at least once a month and sometimes more frequently if there is information you'll need to know.  You will receive an email with the link to this blog each time a new entry is posted.

First thing to notice:  The dates you need to know are always listed at the very beginning of each post so you have them readily available.  Please mark them on your calendar.

Popcorn
We're close to the end of the popcorn selling and we need every one's help to meet our goals.  Remember, the goal is to send all the Scouts to Magness Camp this summer.  For those who didn't go this past summer, take a look at the August Update post on this blog to see some of the pictures.  It's an incredible experience for the scouts as well as the parents.  But it's not free, so we have to work at popcorn selling to make it to our goal.
1.  Each Scout has a $600 goal.  Sounds like a lot but there are several scouts who have either reached the goal or are almost there.  Each of these scouts will win a marshmallow crossbow shooter.
2.  If a Scout sells $1,000 or more he will have a special event at Invesco Field, tour the facility and do passing drills and punting with some former Broncos!

We only have until October 19th to sell, so let's do it!!

Please remember to bring your popcorn selling sheets to the meeting each week.  Prizes are given out and we are able to track our progress.

Scout Dues
If you haven't paid your Scout dues, please remember to do this.  Dues are $3 per month or $24 for eight months.  You may pay monthly or however it works best for you.  See your Den Leaders to pay.

Some photos below of our September Pack Meeting where Rose Red Elk aka Red Feather Woman, talked to our Scouts about Plains Indian culture and did a Lakota (Sioux) dance with them!

If you have pictures you'd like to share on the blog from one of our Scout events, please email them to me and I'll be happy to post.

Thanks!

CAMPING WEEKEND - July 22nd - July 24th – Magness Summer Camp

SATURDAY – AUGUST 14th - Pack Picnic

Hi Scouts and Parents,

Congratulations to all of our Scouts who crossed over!  The ceremony was a big success and we're all very proud of each and every boy who worked hard this year to earn his achievements.

Thank you, parents, for everything you've done with your Scout to make this year happen.  Without your participation, none of this would be possible.  So again a big THANK YOU!

No Den-specific updates this month BUT please note the following items:

Fishing Derby is coming up on June 12th
Please plan to join us for the Fishing Derby in Nederland.  The specific details will be sent in the next couple of weeks.  Stay tuned....

NEW BEARS THIS IS FOR YOU:  The (now) Bears are planning an overnight after the Fishing Derby.  If the (now) Bear parents are interested in the camping trip or if their schedules change, please contact Den Leader, Andy Collier.  He will be sending emails with times and costs to these parents in the next week or two.

Finally, we wanted to let you know that Michelle Melvin is now home from the hospital and doing well.  She's resting and in good spirits.  If you'd like to email her with good wishes, please click here.  We're all sending good thoughts her way.

As always, please email me if you have any questions.

Thanks!

PS:  Check out the photos of Cross Over.  Thanks to Miss Val for taking them!  Also, if you didn't get any photos of your scout, let me know.  Val did a great job of trying to get at least one pic of each boy as he went through the ceremony.

April Updates

***MEETING AND EVENT DATES FOR PACK 13***
TUESDAY – MAY11th – PACK MEETING / Cross Over Ceremony for all Boys.
Belle Creek Cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

SATURDAY - JUNE 12th – Fishing Derby in Nederland, CO

CAMPING WEEKEND - July 22nd - July 24th – Magness Summer Camp

SATURDAY – AUGUST 14th - Pack Picnic

Hi Scouts and Parents,
I know everyone is really busy right now, trying to finish up school and all sorts of other projects. So we wanted to touch base with you regarding some Scouting business:

1. At our May Pack Meeting all of our Scouts will cross over to the next level. As part of the ceremony, each Scout will be presented with a new neckerchief that represents his movement to the next level. (Example: Tiger Cubs will get Wolf neckerchiefs) We will have the neckerchiefs for you to purchase, which will save you the trip to the Scout store in Lakewood. Neckerchiefs are $6.00 before the May 11th meeting and $10.00 the day of the meeting. Please make checks out to Pack 13.

2.  SERVICE PROJECT:  The Wolf Scouts will be assisting the Tiger Cubs next Tuesday (5/4/10) with a project to wrap up their Leadership ribbon. Also, the scouts need to bring an example of a person that serves the community and what that person does to help others (i.e. fireman, doctor, police, teachers, etc...). The meeting will be at BCCS at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.

3.  Finally, A HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents and scouts who helped out at the Scout Show.  It was a big success for our pack.  Over 400 participants went through our booth.  Without your help, we wouldn't have pulled it off.  Also, special thanks to Sheri and Andy Collier.  They devised the booth and training, set up in the morning and then closed down at the end of a very long but exciting day.  We appreciate their efforts.

If you have any questions, as always, email your Den Leaders or you can email me and I'll forward to the right person.

Thanks again for making the scouting experience special for all of the boys.

SATURDAY – AUGUST 14th - Pack Picnic

Hi Scouts and Parents~
To make it easier on everyone, I will now post meeting dates at the beginning of each blog post.  That way you don't have to dig through previous posts to find important dates.

If you missed tonight's Pack Meeting, here are some announcements for you to note:

1.  Dues:  If you haven't paid your dues, please see your Den Leader to do this.  As March was Spring Break, most of us haven't paid March dues, so keep that in mind.  As a reminder, dues are $3.00 per month and we will only be collecting dues through May.

2.  Scout Show:  The Scout Show is coming up and your tickets and money for tickets sold were due tonight.  Please contact Sheri Collier if you have not turned in your money and tickets.  Also, we need volunteers to staff our booth.  There was a sign up sheet at tonight's meeting and we have approximately half of the slots filled but we still need your help.  We will have the sign up sheet at tomorrow's Cross Over Ceremony for Webelos II.  If you will not be at the ceremony tomorrow night, please email Sheri Collier to find out about volunteer slots that we need to fill.

3.  May 11th Pack Meeting and Cross Over Ceremony:  At our May Pack meeting (5/11), we will have the Cross Over Ceremony for all of our Scouts who are moving on to the next level.

We are working to make this a special meeting that is significant to each scout and represents his achievements this year.  Please make sure you purchase a neckerchief for his presentation.

Webelos I will continue to wear the same neckerchiefs as the move forward to Webelos II.  Weblos will receive Eagle feathers, which are $2.00 each.

You can pay your Den Leader or any of the Scout Leaders (Pack Master, Treasurer, Committee Chair, etc.)

As always, if you have any questions, you can post a comment here and I'll get it or you can email me.

Finally, here are some pictures from this past weekend's Kite Flying Day.  The Scouts had a great time flying kites and their trash collection service project was appreciated by many of the attendees who even thanked several of the boys.  Thank you, Heather Zern, for organizing this event for us!

Thanks for all that you're doing for our Scouts!

The Webelos 1 are gearing up for their fitness achievement. Many of the boys will be working on individual pins. As a den we will also be exploring the benefits of fitness, eating healthy, drug and alcohol abuse and how to keep our bodies clean. You will be seeing us outside a lot doing activities and such. Thankfully we have the time change!

Weblos II
The Arrow of Light and Cross-Over ceremony on Wednesday, March 24, marks the end of the Cub Scout trail for the boys of Den 5. Four of the boys started as Tigers when Pack 13 first formed. The others have joined along the trail. We hope you can all attend this special ceremony where the boys will receive the awards that recognize their hard work and dedication, and then cross the bridge into Boy Scouts!

To all the Wolves, Bears and other Webelos, Den 5 Webelos hope each of you will have the opportunity to visit them as Scouts when you begin visiting Troops to make your own Troop selection. They offer these parting words:

"Do your best. Keep healthy. Have fun when it is appropriate and be serious when it is time to."
- Josh Johnson, Troop 193

"I will always remember the fun and adventure I had as a Cub Scout!" - Henry Hill, Troop 564

"Have a very good time so you can remember it for a long time." - Diego Salas-Ray, Troop 564

"Stay inside the Pack. I stayed in 5 years and I loved it!" - Evan Haubenschild, Troop 523

"Have a good time so you can enjoy. HAVE FUN!" - Brandon Pass, Troop 524

"Do your best! Have fun. Work hard for your goal!" - Brandon Walker, Troop 315
